Forensic Science

Forensics

The opportunity to develop new science electives opened up and I had a chance to develop the Forensic Science course and it’s curriculum. The idea came originally from an NSTA National Conference where I gained a greater appreciation of the course’s learning potential through workshops and lab sessions.

The course was offered for ten years and more than five hundred students took it for its unique blend of applied science, deductive problem solving, and hands-on lab work.

Course Overview:

  • Students learned how to properly conduct a crime scene investigation.

  • Identifying best tests for physical, trace, and biological evidence.

  • Determining cause and manner of death.

  • Explaining post-mortem changes to establish time of death.

  • Additionally, each semester concluded with students participating in a lab practical for their exam.
